That's a lot of tongue weight for a 1/2 ton truck! I wouldn't tow that if I were you, but if you had to - weight distribution and at least 10-ply tires on the truck is a must.

If hes got trailer brakes it should stop alright but 10K is going to make that truck it's b!tch in other ways. Might get away with it occasionaly going slow on backroads but don't try some curvy interstate roads loaded up that high. Don't know the numbers on the half tons but I'm guessing anything over about 6-7K trailer weight is going to start getting hairy at speed. The problem with heavy trailers is everything seems relatively manageable until it doesn't and the things just take control and your done. Good driving wont help you there.

I believe some class IV hitches are rated up to 10K but a class V might be a better way to go if the plan is to try and push things. I'm a big fan of overdoing things when it comes to road safety.

Well before this trailer was ordered I said this one should be a gooseneck because of the tounge weight and got told no no no it will be ok. Sure enough that sucker loaded puts a hurting on his chevy 2500hd suspension and now he's buying one of them hitches. It was only another 600 to get gooseneck and if you add all the wiring hitch plate ect your looking at about 1500 bucks. But man you can sure pull a lot more and saftley!

That's chevy for you

I would tow that trailer with my 3/4 ton v10 ram any day, but wouldn't even consider it with a half ton. I am sure that even though 10K lbs. is way over the 1/2 ton limit - it will pull it, but the tongue weight will cause some serious trouble.

Of course, you can always put some HD tires, add a weight distribution system to the trailer, an extra leaf on the suspension and a class V hitch or you can trade in the chevy and get a ram

My bumper on my 94 is rated for 800 lb on the tongue and 8000 to pull. There is no way that it can take 1500 on the tongue. You'll hit a bump and suddenly notice that your truck is pulling much better, until you look in the rearview and see that you're not pulling at all.

Default always

check your tire pressure, have a jack that'll lift the loaded trailer, use safty chains. Orange reflector triangles are always helpful too.
