Default Help with 95 Ram 1500

I am looking at a 95 Ram Sport 4x4 5.9L V8 with 123,000 miles on it and had a few questions. I is a one owner which is a really good family friend and he also ownes a auto repair shop. He is a old adult and never abuses. Test drove today and everything seemed great. I've read about transmission problems with the autos which this is. It shifted great and seems like there is no problems with tranny at all. He kept up with all schedule maintinace that he was supposed to do plus extra. Thinking about buying and was wondering is there anything I should do with the tranny like a shift kit or something? The tranny was replaced at 17,000 miles do to inexperianced worker at his shop and tranny now has over a 100,000 miles on it. Is there anything else I should do to the truck itself or the engine? Any Info would really help a whole lot. Thanks for your time. (P.S. - don't know if I posted this in the right area, New member. Sorry)

You posted in the right area. If the guys real cool ask him if you can take it to a shop for a compression check. Thats the first thing I do. A compression check will tell you if the piston rings are in good shape along with the sealing of the valves. It sounds like you got a good truck there. Thats why I like buying from a private party. They know if they screw you you know where they live. lol. Anyhow buying used is always a risk. I have also heard the most complaints about the auto trans too. Did he tow with it?

Good luck

He towed a small trailer for a couple of small lawn mowers but wasn't very often and wasn't that heavy. It run really smooth shifts are great, engine still seems like it has all of its power. I pretty much seems like it runs like it was brand new off the lot. It needs a allignment though. It's the only thing that wrong with it besides alittle dent on the bed and a few deep scrathes, and paint is chiping of the roll pan. Its a great truck. Hopen to get it but need to sell my 99 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0L V6 first. Tried to sell it awhile ago and it sat on my uncles used car lot for about three months. I just need to get what I owe on my Ranger. Its a great little truck that gets good gas mileage but for the work I do I need something with a bigger truck box and beable to get a tool truck box and not have to pay almost $400 for. I also need bigger to haul stuff, not really tow much but I need to more space to haul things. Im also thing about buying a boat some time this year or early next year. Thanks for the info and any more info on anything else would be great.

Right sure it was an "inexperienced worker", Everyone knows that Dodge has tranny problems just face it.

If Dodge likes to leave out parts and put it on the ground at the shop then yes, it was the notorious tranny problem I have been reading about. My dad was actually at the the shop when this happened. But still I had are other family mechanic take it to the shop that he works at and checked it out and didn't find any problems that I should worry about. What would be the best shift kit and torque converter to get.

Don't pay any attention to Blown_Tranny he's a troll.....All he does is go to different threads and complain about the transmissions in Dodge Trucks...one day he'll get a life. I have a 97 Ram will almost 100,000 miles with NO transmissions problems what so ever!
