Default how involved is replacing a tailgate opening rod?

My tailgate's been sticking. I've lubed the crap out if it, readjusted the damn connection points about a dozen times, and it still sticks.

I think one of the rods has been damaged/stretched out of place. I took a ding in the tailgate up around that area about a year ago and right after that is when the problem started. I can still get it open, just have to slap it in the upper passenger corner while pulling the latch.

Just curious who's done it, and how many times I'm going to cuss when something falls into the tailgate panel.

Taking the rod out shouldn't take much time. Last time I did one it was about 20 min to do. That was in January here and about 15F outside. Just bent the Z a little tighter and its been good since. Don't remeber any problems getting the rod out. Cuss factor 3.5, because it was cold!

Thanks,

I might just order a new rod, as I'm not sure if anything is broken and I don't have my truck to check.

LMC or others seem to be the only ones to carry such things and they have that damn handling fee, makes it double to not order one if I have other stuff to order.

only $10 and the z part isn't on the rod from LMC, bah. I'll have to open it up when i get my truck back and check.

In the shop getting the roof and hood repainted, (clearcoat cancer)

I do not have the skill or patience for paint. Tried last summer and it looked great for 1 month, then it either started to let go, or the duplicolor started pulling the factory primer up. Either way it looked 10x worse.

I think we should start a pool on whether aim4squirrels pokes himself in the eye with the tail gate rod.
