Default 46rh trans from a 1996 v6 ram?

just posted this in montec's thread, however on second thought it might be better suited on its own.

Hi i am new to the site, and have a 95 ram 1500 2wd 5.2l with a bum trans. Reverse is shot, however is still works in all forward gears. I am not familiar with transmissions, therefore have my eye on a replacement 46rh.

The guy that has the trans, says it came out of a v6 ram 1996 model. It is still attached to the engine, as the
truck was parted out. From everything i have read, this seems to be the wrong model of trans for that year and application. Can anyone sort this out for me?

Excuse my ignorance if i have anything wrong here. I just want to know if this will bolt up to my v8 without any issues.

Cheers.

The 96 trans should be a 46RE, Maybe a 42 or 44RE, not entirely sure on that, but, in any event, it takes its cues from the PCM as to when it should shift. It won't work on your 95.

On a side note; I love taking trannys out of van. They are too easy to uninstall.

There, in the FAQ, very last post. Thats the transmissions from year to year, although wiring changed quite a bit sometimes, usually every couple of years.
