So the dual snorkel is restricting flow (possibly), how about a quad snorkel? Add one on each side and shoot them out to the fenders or directly above the existing snorkels.

IDEA:

Take the element out alltogether and put these in the ducting: You put a cone filter in this
http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.9831
^^ Two of them will flow 1400 CFM (700 each).

Here is a picture for reference:

^^The air filter is IN LINE

Uh seeing that has changed my whole idea of UPS, use to hate them, not now lol
I have a feeling this is going to go OT with what I have to reply lol

What motor does Ray have & is this a Dak that he says got identical et results with the old school setup & ramairbox?
Daks & Rams dont react the same way.
IE, how many Dak owners will tell you they saw no torque loss w/M1 intakes (most of them)
Most Ram owners do notice low rpm loss.

Ive always felt that a motor that has to suck air in will cost power compared to one that gets air pushed in or doesnt have to suck as hard. (mind out of the gutter boys)

I ran my ramairbox with a 14x2.25" for the first couple years.

When I finally switched to a true 14x3" I felt a SOTP gain (mainly off the line).
I had been making so many changes prior, some costing performance & others that may have helped that TBH not sure how much or if it affected ets at all.
Only thing I had to go by was SOTP at time of swap which I felt I gained on.
By Rays statement a supercharger wont help performance if that was the case.

Sheriff, not the snorkels that are causing restriction, the filter is/could be.

ahh.. I figured it could be from less air getting to the filter.

THe best air cleaner for a power gain (for me)m was the edelbrock pro-flo. The triangle/basket type filter. It is basically like putting a foam bubble over your throttle body.

The good on the pro flo: LETS IN A LOT OF AIR!!!
The bad on the pro flo: LETS IN A LOT OF DIRT!!

I would not see why a ram air setup would work worse than an open element? HOWEVER, if you had the X-stream lid on it...we could be talking a lot of power.

No, less air going through the filter due to the 9 inch having less filter area than the 14x3. THink of it this way:

1. A 9 inch filter is like sucking a milkshake through a coffee straw.
2. a 14x3 is like sucking a milkshake through a big fat mcdonalds straw.
Which is going to satisfy your hunger faster....

Also, the element material makes a difference. Cloth offers less resistance than paper. But less filter capacity.

WHat is easier to breathe through, notebook paper or a t-shirt?
