The vacuum switching at the vents is a function of these check valves and, without them, not one of those switches will work. If and when they go, or fail to open and close, the vent position flow will remain in it's current position or default to defrost mode. This entire system (lame in my opinion) is totally dependent on these stupid check valves and, OH, even with NEW ones, it still doesn't work 100%! The design just sucks. This is why next year, when I'm done with my contract assignment coming up in NY soon, I'm gutting that crap out and putting in all electronic switching valves that will open and close the vents for good and, with complete reliability as well. This is one area that is weak in function. Some put vacuum canisters in-line to aid as keeping the vacuum on one side just as as work around and, I've read on here that in fact, it doesn't work for all users. So, electrical switching is going in next summer here.
That thing is 10$ at napa but a factory replacement from the stealer is around 5$, why not go to the dealer?
Wow! Five bucks? Out here in So Cal, guess how much they want for one of those damn things..... 59.44. Now, I am not entirely sure if he had the correct part as this was over the phone so, it may have been for another check valve. I asked him what it looked like and, the description that he provided matched up to the physical appearance of the check valve in question.
That has to have been the wrong part because that would be insane if it were that price. They were 3 and some change when I got mine a couple years ago, they are 5 and some change now.
Kaldir, make sure it has the same diameter inlet/outlet as yours and that napa check valve will work.
I am using some that are NOT OEM and they work on mine without issue - so far. I cleaned the OEM ones and, those work now, but, for how long it's going to last before I get the wild vent issue, who knows. So, I chose to install new ones.
The one check valve there does work, I took it off and blew through it. One side blew through, the other side didn't. I broke the T in the process, so I had to replace that. lol
