Default 3 link front suspension

so ive been thinking about some options for the front suspension as the 5 link isnt the best. could something like this be possible for our dodges? and how hard would it be? would the positioning of the arms be critical?

Superlift has radius arms. But if you need flex you should not switch to them from your 5-link.

wouldnt 3 link be better for flex as you have less points of connection? do you have a link for the arms? i looked and couldnt find them.

It's their 5" kit. The arms are basically a V.

It actually provides less flex than the stock setup. These in particular. They are not 'wristed' so there isn't as much turn in them. When the left wheel drops the left arm twisted to the right and the right arm is twisted to the left. The arms work against each other. If they were 'wristed' where they can torque independently that would be different. I have not seen any for our trucks though. Superlift is actually the only company that I've seen to use a radius arm for our trucks. It is a lot of stress to put on just the lower control arm mounts on the frame.

If you are looking to flex, the superlift radius arms are not what you want.

The four link design is much more superior, but you have to get rid of the stock frame mounts so you can use much longer arms. For example, the Extreme Suspensions (used to be Dick Cepek) four link upgrade will flex like no other.

But, that being said, a custom radius arm like the one above could do very well also, but you will need to use a different frame mount. The axle mounts will work just fine.

yeah i was going to made a mount at the back of the cab, have the arm go to the lower axle bracket and then take a short one off the first arm to the top bracket. i was going to use ballistic fab heim joints.

well i did the math and its going to be cheaper to go with the long arm box kit. are there any draw backs to this system? i would really like to get this kit in the next few weeks as soon as i get the money...

Which long arm box kit? The Extreme suspensions one is OK, but I have heard of people having issues with the supposedly "thin" wall tubing used. But you would have to be quite abusive in my opinion to cause any damage to them.

Your idea with purchasing the parts and building your own is a great one if you ask me. Sure its more expensive, but who cares... it will be stout as hell and you can say, "Yeah, I built that".

the only long box kit that i no of is from extreme energy.... and yeah id much rather build my own but for 600 dollars in parts and then i have to fab it up, why not go with the cheaper one thats already been proven to work, and plus i dont do lots of heavy wheelin so i think the arms will be ok...

BDS makes a long arm kit but it seems to be just the bottom arms, and its $503! extremes is $550 for four arms...

Yeah, I completely understand the thought process for buying a pre-built kit. Not only is it cheaper in the long run, but also much less work (no fabricating).

The BDS one is exactly that, basically just a longer lower link... kinda like the Fabtech, RCD and Skyjacker (7") kits. While they will work much better than the stock setup, the Extreme Suspension's kit will still work way better than those.

There used to be a kit from Rock Krawler (now called Pure Performance for the trucks) that used longer upper and lowers but nearly mounted together at the frame... but for some reason I have not seen it advertised for quite some time for the 2nd gens, but it looks the exact same as the one for the 3rd gens. I had heard good luck with that kit also.

The only part about Extremes kit I don't like is the fact that you have to cut a fairly large portion of one of the body mounts at each side. They give an added brace for it, but I still don't like the idea of it.
