headlight restoration

Default headlight restoration

i saw the guy on Trucks! on Spike TV restore yellowed headlights using wet sandpaper and polishing compund. what are the best steps as far as sanding goes? i.e. 300 then 600 then 1k then 3k or what?

I did mine with a kit from autozone. Turtle wax makes it its ten bucks and mine looks almost brand new.

The best thing i have used was brasso, its cheap and works damn good

I used the Crystal View Chemicals kit and it worked just fine. Got it on sale for something like eleven bucks at K-Mart.

I start with 1k then move up.I also use a pnuematic buffer and plastic polish.
They usually look good for a couple of weeks,then not so good after a month.

Because you aren't using a polish with a wax in it. Many don't even have it, but if you just take some low end wax like Nufinish, it will look good for a much longer time than just sanding and polishing.

I used the old toothpaste and elbow grease method to clean up mine. They have a very slight yellow tinge but you can see through them now.

I bought the turtle wax kit for my Jeep. It's idiot proof, with detailed instructions and even numbered sanding pads. Was all of $9.99.
