Default Axle Issues

I have a '96 ram 1500 with 35's and only 3:55 gears...and it has a slow leak at the pumpkin. I checked it today and it is still full but there is a small whine when I'm driving. well my question is should I beef up to dana 60's or just but 4:10 im my 12 bolt axle. I'm a college student and got in to truck so i know some but not a lot. Any help is appreciated

Let me move this out of the general discussion (somewhat off-topic area) section and into the technical section, get you some help there.

Welcome to DF!

You swapped in a 12-bolt?
The symptom you are describing doesn't require an entire axle assembly replacement. Some RTV and an oil change is it.
You do need to change the gears for that size tire though.
