Engine cutting out please help
Hi
Just yesterday when I was coming back from looking at a boat for my kid my engine would cut out like it was loosing spark. The drive back was 1 hr and about 30 mins in to driving back it would cut out just for a second about 4 to 5 mins later it would do it again and again. Then today we went and hauled a car home that was 20 mins away on the way there was no problem but on the way back it started cutting out again about every minute or 2 it got worse and was loosing power and cutting out more often. coil? maybe please help!!
The check engine light does not come on.

could be coil. could also be fuel pump/filter which is in the tank.
coil is not overly expensive.
you can check fuel pressure with a gauge at the test port on the fuel rail. drivers side of intake manifold.
does it feel like it looses spark to all cylinders, as in zero power, or just one cylinder.

exactly what mine was doing. 1999 1500 4wd 5.2. After many trips interupted having to wait originally 1 min then up to 30 for it to restart. ended up to be pcm. First noticed fuel pump not running, replaced. Still did it. tryed smacking pcm with wrench, fuel pump turned on. PCM replaced--fixed..

Also it acts the worse in od when the converter is locked up and again it is spark drop out. It acts like you turn the power off then back on. I have had other vehicle that had gas pumps go bad and it is alot different. oh and also my engine is a 5.2 4x4 with an auto trans
Thanks

as cheap and easy as a coil is i'd probably blindly replace it.
you could try testing it but whatever it is failing intermittently, so that means its going to always work when you test it and only fail when your not.

OK I have tried the coil and did not stop the cutting out on the bright side it revs faster and seams to have more power. So I am stuck until i get other ideas on where ti go next.
Thanks to everybody for giving me assistance in helping my poor truck during the time of it being sick and in pain.
