Question Turn Signal Malfunction

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 3.9L, and am now having problems with the left turn signal. It works just fine somedays, and others it will blink once or twice and then stop blinking...so I turn it off and right back on and it blinks 1-4 times and stops. And it just does this at random. It will be fine for a week or so at a time, and then all of a sudden start acting up for a day or two and then be back to normal. Is this an electrical, bulb, or fuse problem?

Open up the fuse box and there is a turn signal unit (should be chrome). You can get it replaced for a couple bucks.

Could be a bad connection or grounding wire. Especially if you are in the rust belt.

could be the switch inside the steering column as well. Check the wiring at your turn lights and the fuses first. It sounds like a bad ground.

HA! I may be a girl, but I refuse to fall for that one!!

Last night, they just kinda stopped working at all. They would flash once and then not at all, or they wouldn't even flash period. I checked the fuse box inside the truck, and there is not a fuse for turn signals, would it be in the main box under the hood? Also, my park lights work, and the flashers work...so its leading me more to think that it may be a bad wire somewhere...but where would I even begin to find that at?

Ya the main fuse is under the hood, checkin wires is a pita. Get yourself a good wire tester, some paitience and a sack of beer lol. I would start checking them from the multifuntion switch back. If you aren't getting any power down the wire from the multifunction switch it is probably the switch itself.

I have a 96 Ram, so I'm not sure if they're the same, but there has to be a turn signal relay somewhere. Mine is in the fuse box. Maybe someone here with a 2000 can help you find it, but that would be the first thing I would check. If it goes bad, the flashers still work.

I looked under the hood, and in the fuse box inside the truck, and there is nothing that says anything for turn signals. I have flashers, park lamps, etc...but no turn signals. Yesterday, they started working, but only for a minute, then back to NOTHING! I am utterly confused.

Maybe this will help. When your signals do work, find out where the clicking noise is coming from. That's the relay clicking.
