You can get it done with a 110v MIG. Even though I have a 220v stick welder and a gas setup, 90% of the time I grab my MIG. About the only time I don't use my MIG is when I can't get to electricity, then I'll grab the gas setup. You can get a weld on steel up to 1/4" that will support the rolling weight of your truck easily.

Back to the original topic: I'd be leary of hooks from Harbor Freight. I tend to buy that stuff from Tractor Supply where they may cost a bit more, but are usually American made, industrial grade stuff.
I do have some tools from there though. No worse than any other "no-name" chinese made crap from Wal-Mart or even a lot of the newer, cheaper made Craftsman tools.
I keep my older Craftsman, PennCraft and Snap-On stuff in my tool cabinets in the garage, but carry these cheaper tools in my vehicles because I'm forever losing them.

Just remember this -- Harbor Freight = JUNK.

Pay once, cry once. Buy Quality over Kwality.

'Nuff said.

You'll be out all of 30$ not including the extension to get it past the bumper.
I'd kill for a front mounted hitch. The ones you can buy look like they'd hang down to far from the bumper and look stupid. I don't understand why all trucks don't come with tow hooks and a trailer hitch. It's a truck, use it for what it's designed for. I can think of a bunch of times when front tow hooks would have come in handy.

Harbor Freight, if your in a jam and don't want to use the tool again. otherwise just take the $10 and light it up and watch the purty colors. And then after you've trashed enough (most of the time it's 3) from HF you'll realize you just spent more then you would have if you'd gotten the better one to start with.

Some stuff if alright, if you baby it. I've re-roofed 3 roofs with the el'cheapo coil air nailer from HF. We'll ignore the fact that I had to follow most nails with a hammer to seat em properly. You'll know which ones they are cause they're busting through the next layer of shingles.

I tried out the flux core when I got my welder, yeah it sucks. I fell in love with my welder when I got the 75% argon/25% CO2 gas bottle.

Tractor supply has a bunch of good stuff, I especially like their tools (Master Hand) because they're good quality and they have a lifetime warranty. Oh yeah, did I mention that they're super cheap compared to Craftsman or Kobalt hand tools?

Heh, my $20 sawzall from harbor freight is still kicking. I can't count the number of times I've dropped it off lifts, and I can't even begin to count everything I've cut with it. Haven't had a single problem.
I actually have a number of tools from harbor frieght that I bought with the intention of using once and throwing away, but I still have them and I still use them every day. My sawzall is one, still have a pair of adjustable pliers, a complete socket set (that I've knowingly and purposely used on an impact gun instead of using my nice sockets when space is too tight) and I still have a brake line bender which hasn't even loosened up at the joints yet.

Then again, I also have the numerous broken pliers, hammers, wrenches (I can't believe I bent that one instead of it breaking...) ratchets, screw drivers, and more. All this stuff is the tools I keep in my truck. The nice stuff stays at the garage.

As for the tow hooks, I'd stay away.

Only on the pittsburg brand. Not everything I broke was pittsburg brand. But I usually don't care enough to return the uber cheap stuff. Not a big enough deal.
