I just did this repair on my 01 2wd. Takes about 1hr and about $35 just unhooked both ends of the stock line and bypassed it with all new line from Autozone. I have the 1 man brake bleeder so that made that part go fast. VERY easy repair. Dont pay $200.

Dropping the tank isn't that big of a chore, really. Your fiance oughta just man up and do it. I mean, the lucky dog has a truck chick. He ought to appreciate that.

Driving without brakes aint fun, I blew the main rear line on my jeep about 10 miles from home, of course being a guy I timed the lights and drove it home, then about a year later I had a complete fail of a master cylinder that left me with out brakes, I found out when I almost slammed into the back of a 240sx, luckily the curb I jumped was enough to stop me, once again I drove all day in it to get done what I needed then drove it to the parts store the next day to buy the part (in my defence the failed MC gave me enough brakes to slow down if I slammed on the pedal after pumping it a few times) when I took out the old one the piston came out in 3 pieces, this was before I had my truck.

No kidding! All I hear from my wife is how my truck is to loud, or how hard it is to get into. I keep telling her I could have bought an off road edition, which would be a couple inches higher, and she just rolls her eyes at me.

Hahaha. I love both of our trucks and the Jeep sometimes. Currently, my truck is the Sport edition so has the 1" lift, but I'm putting a 5" lift on it at tax time. His truck's staying stock because he's gonna do a lot of towing with it. The Jeep is hated by me partially because it has a cheap top (bikini top, soft upper windows, and a windjammer. And the clutch master cylinder hates me. And the floor is extremely hot because he decided to rip the carpet out and never finish the job of putting bedliner in there. Ahh, it's lovely.

But back to the original topic, I gotta hope it doesn't take him 11 hours like he's thinking. He plans on starting around 12 noon and says he'll probably finish at 11pm. But I wanna go to mudbogs that day. Haha. So I need him to finish early. But if not I'll survive.

How much of a pain in the *** is it to not buy the premolded brake line? To flare the brake line?

Thanks so much!

Usually you can bend the tube by hand but be careful not to kink it. A small tubing bender will make it much easier, but that's a few bucks more. They sell tubing benders in the special tools isle at most any parts store.

You actually don't have to drop the tank at all. I chopped my old line in 1/3's for easy removal. Laid the new line in front of the truck and fed it into place. once I got to the gas tank I manuevered it the best I could. I had my buddy on the other side reach back and grab the line and pulled it on through. Rotated the line into place and it was a done deal. I certainly didn't want to drop the tank either but I was able to clip it in the clip before and after the tank. Bolted it along the frame rail... it ain't going anywhere. I highly recommend buying the $30 prebent line from dodge. Replace your other lines while your at it if the money is available.

Replacing both brake lines from the master cylinder to the rear brakes was the first thing I did to my Thunderbird when I was 17 (had to fix it before I could drive it), with no help and having never done it before. Those brake lines had a lot more bends in them than the section your replacing. You'll see how easy it is when you're about half way through the job.
