Default Timing Chains

What is the reliable life span of the timing chains on our trucks? I have 120k miles and cant seem to find a recommended maintenance.

You will start to see a decrease in power after 100k, thats when they start to get play. I have 160k on my truck and did the timing chain couple weeks ago. It had alot more than 1/8th inch of play. I have been told they should be replaced every 100k interval.

kinda what i thought... that seems to be the limit on most... my timing cover is leaking was just wondering if i should grab the set before i took it off, or just check it while i had it apart....

whoever designed water passages in the timing cover should be shot!

yep. nothing like having to pull the balancer and timing cover just to fix a leak.

my chain was shot a 120k.

lots of dumb things on these trucks.
plenum belly pan.
axle seals down inside the tube, requiring removal of carrier.
everything about the vacuum cad.
freeze plugs covered by transmission.
must remove starter to remove oil pan.
distributor cap in impossible spot.

Get new Mopar gaskets because you can't use the old one. The newer Mopar gaskets are much, much better. Just go by the FSM torque specs when installing. Clean the surface's.

As I believe with the water passages going through the timing cover, GM and FORD do the samething....

i have 204K on my chain......dont know if its been replaced....have a slight lack of power...so i need to ask this, instead of making a new thread.

I was lookin on summit, and they had the comp cams double roller set, for about 54 bucks (inc. shipping) now i know the saying, you get what you pay for, but comp cams is a reliable name, so is this a good set? and can i put on the double roller chain without modifacation? and last, can i just pull the chain, and put the new one in the same exact spot (lining up punchmarks etc.) without having to do TDC?

I was taught to alwas do TDC when changing them... that might be a "because of bob" thing though. had a lot of that in that shop. I have used comp cams in the past always been happy with the products but never used a timing set from them... can you link for me and i'll sit back see what the others say bout them.

95ram360- streetsideauto has the same chain for 2$cheaper. i know it doesnt sound like alot. but to me it makes a difference cause i have to pay taxes on things from summit and jegs. and streetsideauto always has coupon codes. i have bought stuff from them with good results.
