trading to get a dodge ram

keep the cavalier. You will be replacing parts on a 2ndgen dodge with that many miles and at that age.
to put it in perspective:
1. I junked my 1996 because I could not, with good conscience, sell it to anyone. it looked nice and had lots of upgrades, but the transfer case was on its last leg. I junked it with 33s, AMC rims and a sidepipe exhaust. BTW, I bought the truck with 92K and it lasted 150K.
2. I bought my 2001 with 49K miles on it in Jan 2008. I would not consider a 2ndgen with over 80K miles unless it had all maintenance paperwork to back it up.
ALso, your cavalier will drive like it has more power than that truck.
Another thing. When people say that an engine is "rebuilt" that could only mean that the gaskets were replaced. Rebuild kits are another name for gasket kits.
Gas: 1050
Truck: 550
Repair parts: 1000 within the first 8 months.

That truck does not look promising. I hate chevy but, in this case I would recommend you keep it given your current situation.
If you are really considering it, I give it a very thorough inspection, maybe even bring it to a shop or dealership to have inspected. At least that way you know what you are dealing with if you get the truck.

ya mirrors on the truck definately gotta go, and he says engine has 25000 miles on a new one, an 20000 on a new transmission. And I bought the cavi for 1500, but i looked at the blue book and its 1500 poor an 1900 exellent, truck was 2400 poor, 3200 excellent. I looked at going price around me for cavis is around 1200-1400. ill have to check it out, he's bringin it down tomorrow, If i say no ill give him some gas money to get back, what are some other things I can look for to see if its rebuilt? and just other stuff to look for besides the gasket?
and im taking automotives in school so I can work on it there, and do the work myself no matter what the problem, and i get a discount on parts but still, I gotta spend money on them, they aint free lol.

You will know if he is lying about a new engine if the valvecovers have a PRISTINE bar code on them. look for the bar code sticker on the frint hump as you are looking at it.
Rebuilt and new are completely different. At first you said rebuilt.
EVEN IF the engine and tranny are that new. I guarantee that you will be replacing the ball joints, steering box, tie rods, and possibly the transfer case.
So, like i said, you will be sinking money into it. And even if you work at an auto tech school, you still need to GET THERE...right?
THat guy seems like he wants to get your cavalier. Much easier to sell than a 2ndgen truck.
