86ing the Ram Air Hat
Well,
I was going to finish it up today. I put on my old throttle body because of the mistake of ruining the thread hole on my fastman. I put on the Air Hat and the plumbing.
The tubes didn't fit "nice and easy" to the front radiator supports, so I am quitting this project.
I think it is because of the battery position of my truck is blocking easy access on the drivers side, and the tranny cooler lines are in the way on the passenger side. They can fit with some patience. But I lost mine. I think I lost it when I ruined my fastman TB.
So, if anyone wants it, I will sell it:
Here is the description:
1. Used 2 dakota air hats to make a dual scoop. Riveted them and sealed them with hi temp epoxy. Sealed it over again with RTV. THen I painted it WRINKLE BLACK. Cost of parts: 57 dollars
2. Has a K&N Air filter in it: 42 dollars
3. Comes with all air hat mounting hardware which includes vinyl tubing to seal the air ducts. Black wrinkle painted scoop mounting brackets. Stainless steel self tapping screws to mount the brackets and attach the scoops.
100 dollars plus shipping for this. I have a perfectly good mopar performance air hat that I bought 3 months ago, so I will just go with that.
I will get pics up soon. I painted the lid a while ago, but i painted the rest today after I called it quits. So tomorrow I will post some pics.
I might not sell it if AIM comes to my rescue and gives me some tips. I am not sure, but maybe he has a solution.

what was the nature of the problem?
The driver's side scoop mount was far more cramped corners than the passenger side.
I hooked the tube up with the scoop to the driver's side snorkel and pulled the tube up as snug as it would go against the fan shroud/washer bottle under the battery tray. The tube is pinched a very little bit, but not enough to hamper flow in any major way. The side radiator flaps will need to be cut to allow the scoops to fit through, I actually took them out until I was done test fitting everything. IIRC, the scoop on the driver's side fit better upside down, but I can't remember off hand if that was exactly what I did.
Then I went to the front of the engine and marked where the tube wanted to fit naturally (pushed them up a bit so they wouldn't be under the bumper molding) and used a sharpie to mark the mounting holes of the flanges on the frame rail and the scoops.
Mounted the flanges to the scoops and slid it all back into position in the engine bay. Used self tapping screws to drill the flanges secure against the frame rails.
The scoops can be left permanently in position, you just have to pull the tubes off the scoops when you want to remove them, a bit of squeezing and pressing the tube over the scoop coupler gets them back on. Takes a bit of practice, but you get faster at it.
The tube kept wanting to pull off the driver's side snorkel, so I used an HVAC zip tie to secure it. It now holds better than the passenger side.
The hat also tips forward when it sits on the TB without the lid (I think just weight of the tubes and snorkels on the front), but the wing nut fully tightened down holds it right in place. You can also gain a little slack in the tubes if you need it by mounting the scoops a bit deeper into the engine bay as the mounting flanges I bought have 2 sets of screw holes to choose from.
hope that helps.

I think it just comes down to laziness on my part. i think I will try to get some more tubes to make an extension part.
Weird thing:
I could have spent 99 bucks on this Spectre one from Jegs:

I am already just over 100 dollars.
But it is cooler to make something yourself.

That spectre hat doesn't seal all the way, the lid sits about a half inch off the base. The brake master cylinder tends to get in the way on the drivers side. Might need a spacer too, as its a drop base.
hey can ya send me a couple pics? im interested in the dual ram air thing for my truck and im going to route the tubes net to the slots near the fog lights or replace the fog lights with two inlet tubes there. id really like to see this!
