I've thought about that. But wouldn't it only cause an oil leak? that area only opens into the valley, not to the manifold or runners (at least with a good plenum gasket.. ). Right?

it might not leak oil... the oil would tend to drain down the valley rather than leak out the back.

however, that is an oil gasket, and not an vacuum/plenum gasket, so i don't think it would be a vac leak, even if it was completely missing.
