Default Weird Starting Woes (Wiring Problem?)

Okay, I have some very weird symptoms with starting. I'm gonna try to do this in the list format, so bear with me.

Symptoms:

1) Truck won't start (you know this already)
2) No dash lights come on, no reading on any gauges
3) I will turn the key, nothing happens.
4) As soon as I let off the key, power slowly comes back, lights come on, battery gauge has a very low reading, and the GEN light came on once.
5) Turn the key again, truck barely starts, with very low PRMs. GEN light goes away.
6) I can rev it and the RPMs will return to normal, truck runs normally.
7) The O/D off light is on at this point. I turn off the light and it will stay off.
8) From here on it acts like nothing has ever happened. No running or shifting problems.

This has happened four times in a row, worse each time. Also, I'd like to point out that the clock on my CD player stays on time regardless of these recent problems. Usually the clock will reset to 12:00 if the battery is ever disconnected.

I'm thinking there'e some sort of wiring problem, and I wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanks! -Bruce

Clean the battery terminals, and all ground points in the engine compartment.

You got it! I did this last night when it finally wouldn't start. None of the grounds and terminals were very bad, but I guess it was just enough to make it not work.

And yeah, the battery's on its last leg, but it should make it a little while longer.

Thanks guys!
