it uses a cotter pin instead of nylon locker. does 2wd have a hole for it?

no hole in the spindle it's definitely built to use that nylock type nut.

i'm just sitting here thinking about how things have changed in 20 years.

today, the internet lets me sit here in my comfy recliner, find your part number, google it, check a few web sites like rockauto and napa, and come up with it despite their goofy part number and lack of direct fit reference... something your local napa store can't even do.

20 years ago i would wait until the hours of 8-5 M-F, closed on sat and sun, and drive over to the the local parts store. don't even think about calling LOL. stand in line to talk to a guy that was at least 75 years old. he'd flip back and forth in his books, and eventually say - well, this might be it, but we'll have to special order it and it'll be a week before it gets here. AND every single time he looked up something, in stock or not, he'd get off one line in the book and give you the wrong part every time.

Def a 35mm nut. Fits like a glove, which is good because I don't want the da.n thing letting loose on me when I try to break it off.

I'm waiting for the day when we have a part fabricator box in our garage and we just pay some nonexistent company to send the schematics to the box and CNC out the part.

That or teleportation of truck parts.

Anybody that has a Haynes or chilton manual handy? Can you check if you're supposed to use locktite on the hub nut? Dealer part isn't laced with it like most are, and the FSM doesn't state it, but I'd like a second or third opinion. Don't want that thing coming loose.

I couldn't find any mention of it in the Haynes manual, it just says that installation is reverse of removal. The only mention of the 2wd spindle I saw was about ball joint replacement (I think it was ball joints anyway) on page 10-10.

2001 service manual says, nevermind.. you already put it in here.

I'm sure a little threadlocker blue wouldn't hurt anything. Unless it could affect the performance of the nylock insert.

Haynes sucks, It doesn't even show this type of bearing for a 2wd. Just the old style inner outer bearing. But, I've never heard of anyone putting loctite on the nut. Don't think you need to worry about it. You'll know it's loose way before it falls off completely.

Yeah, if you feel vibration and your cell phone isn't ringing then you might want to pull over and check things out.
