I saw the post that CM made about DINO oil and how these motors are not designed for Synthetic oil. And to just use 10w-40 valvoline. I am going to try it in the new truck next change.(already have the oil and filter) But the pic I'm posting is from my 98 after using mobil 1 since 10k to around 160k when I installed the HS 1.7's. I think you could almost eat off them. When I swapped the rockers to my 2000 I was pleased to find it was just as clean under the valve covers at 78K. And I have no record of how it was maintained previously. But it was obvious that it was not neglected.

Well I'm thinking that maybe mine is so bad from the previous owners either using crap oil and filters or just letting it get low a lot. I have no idea how it was treated for the first 75k of its life.
