Default Bedliner in lieu of paint job

So I went to the gun range Thursday night with the hubby, there was this Dodge 1500 Club Cab there. I thought it was flat black (and it looked AWESOME). Then after talking to someone there found out it was bedliner all over the truck. It looked awesome. And the concept is great, or so I think. If it gets muddy, you just spray it down and you're done. However, with my truck being originally from Michigan, there's some rust, there's rust along the bedrails from the truck bed cap being there from the day it was driven off the lot until about Nov 2009. There's also rust under the driver's side door. I don't know, nor can I figure out for some reason, what to do about this. Could or should the bedliner just be sprayed over the bedliner rail rust? I'm pretty sure the door rust will need sheet metal work.

Has anyone heard anything about a bedliner painted truck?

Yes mam, there is actually one on here if you search for it. He bedlined his Ram inside and out. It would definitely be a nice tough finish. However, I have heard that you should invest in a little extra and also do a few coats of UV protectant, that way it won't fade over time and look like poo.

also if you decide to do it kiss your gas mileage goodbye, not that we had good mpg's to begin with. the rhino liner adds weight and drag to to our trucks. but you may have to sacrfice a different look for a little mileage.

According to the place I'd be getting mine done at, the rhino-line already has a UV protectant.
