As far as the motor goes, you need to use the 5.9 flex plate and crank pulley. Also swap the entire intake manifold. As far as the tranny goes, don't bother. They are quite different.

Yep, the 95 is OBDI, but, you can just drop the motor in complete, hook up your existing wiring harness, and reflash the PCM for the larger motor.

The trans simply will not work. 98 uses 46RE, 95 uses 46RH.... the computer will be WAY confused, and the truck will never run right.

I saw a truck that looked a lot like mine (though in worse condition..... maybe I should post pics...), but, it was a 95. Nothing off of that truck would work for me. (it was a half ton with a 318..... damn. cheap too.)

Drop it in complete yes, but you have to swap the intake don't forget. And that would be a good time to get a Hughes or APS plate.

+1 on all that, but he's still got a problem. his initial problem was a 98 with a bad trans and a good motor. he's bought a trans/motor combo where there's no way in hell the trans is going to work. little point in replacing a 98 5.2 with an older 95 5.9. what he needs to do is sell or swap his 95 trans/motor for a 98 trans.

edit - no way in hell is too strong of a statement. you can put the the 95 46RH trans in and not connect up the 98 46RE wiring harness to the trans. the trans will work but the truck will throw a transmission related CEL for the rest of its life. your speedometer will also not work since its electronic. i don't know how the pcm will react to lack of speed sensor signal. it might work ok, i don't know. i wouldn't do it.
