Default noisy belt adjuster

I had a noise like the adjuster pulley bearing was bad. Replaced pulley and bearing, noise still there and getting worse. It is not the water pump, power steering, idler pulley or alternator, used stethescope to determine location of noise. Any help will be appreciated.

The tensioner itself is probably froze up and not tightening the belt fully. Remove the belt and spray some penetrating oil on the spring and work the tensioner back and forth as far as it will go. Try that first. And don't get the oil on the pulley or belt.

My first one would stick in place, you had to pull it toward the passenger side to get it to hold the belt tight.
My second one (from a junkyard) would click and clack from the spring rubbing the plastic. It would shut up for a little while when I gave it a shot of WD-40 through the opening on top where you can see the spring.
I replaced that one with a new one a little while back and it's all good now. The new one's spring is sealed instead of being open like the OEM tensioners so hopefully this one will be good for a long time.

^^ I just bought a dorman brand tensioner from rockauto, and it's fully sealed.

I'm having the same rusted spring issue with the OEM tensioner.

So the spring is more or less enclosed on the Dorman compared to the OEM?

Dayco is also what I got for mine when it started making noises.

I debated getting the Gates unit from O'Reillys, but heard the Dayco unit was beefier. So far so good, looks like a solid unit.

Yes, the Dorman unit is more or less fully sealed.
And it's a pretty beefy unit as well. Looks nice, haven't installed it yet, but By the end of next week it will be on.

Dayco is a good brand as well.
