Default What is this noise?

Hey folks...newly registered to the forum but have been looking at your posts for awhile now. Has anyone ever heard of this... When I first start my truck in the morning, back out of the driveway, and put in Drive, there is a sound like running/gurgling water coming from under the passenger side dash. This only happens for a few short seconds and then stops, and doesn't happen again all day long, only the next morning. Haven't seen a drop of water in the interior in the 12 years I've had the truck, so I guess no news is good news in this situation. Just wondering if this is common or if it should be addressed. Any input would be great. Thanx

Maybe you have an air bubble in your coolant system and you are hearing it from the heater core. Did you do any thing with your coolant system recently?

It's just air in the lines gurgling through the heater core. Try doing a forum search for instructions on burping the cooling system if you'd like to get rid of it.

It isn't as bad when the top of your dash is exposed to the open air.

Murren, air pocket in the cooling system for sure.
Check all your hoses, freeze plugs, timing cover and the water pump for leaks. Make sure the radiator is full. The radiator cap may be bad also.

It could just be that the coolant reservoir got empty at one point and sucked some air into the system.

If your heater core is leaking then you will have a musty smell like a basement or an attic when you turn on the heat.
When it starts leaking bad enough you might see a wet floor on the passenger side and the windshield will fog up when the heat is turned on.
Mine gave a little puff of steam through the face vents when I first turned on the heat along with fogging the windshield.

Does you truck leak antifreeze?....Mine gets that gurgle every couple weeks when enough coolant leaks out of the leaky softplugs between motor and tranny....I used stop leak and it helps a lot but still get a slow drip. if heater core failed you usually get condensation on inside of windshield every morning and damp musty sweet smell from core leaking either onto or under carpet padding....

air pocket sounds like a likely culprit..truck has done it since day one, i have noticed the overflow resevoir was empty a time or two, so maybe it did suck in some air..water pump recently went bad and going to replace in a week or so..would this be a good time to bleed the air out of the system after I fill it?
