Default 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 front bumper question...

I just fully repainted my 1998 Dodge Ram and I want to swap the front bumper out for a painted one. It has a brand new chrome front bumper with upper and lower pads on it, but I want to put the sport style front bumper on it painted.

My question is this, I cant find it anywhere. And the one that I do find people are telling me that I need to change my headlights? Is this true? I just want an all smooth front bumper to paint to match the truck. I dont want to paint over the chrome because nothing really ever sticks to chrome. Any input would be great as to what bumper I need.

Here are a few shots of my truck...

And this is what I am looking for....

Or

I think those are the same covers, I like how they are all smooth. Will those bumpers fit my front end? I dont see what the difference in the headlights is?

And what do I have to get to swap covers, bumper reinforcement and mounting hardware?

Thanks guys!

Go to LMCtruck.com for the bumper. The grille is different though(you'll have a space the sport model does not have, but your stock HL's will work fine.

Where do you live? I have a near perfect chrome part. Plastics were already sold.

You can also rough up your chrome bumper with steel wool, sand paper or some thing, that way if you painted it, it would stick better.

+1... It's all in the prep work. I actually don't really want to sell the one I have(off my 98) because I am going to paint it green and paint the gray plastic lower part to match my truck. I don't mind the black upper plastic being black, as I'm going for a green and black only look. Doing the grille too.

I paint for a living, and you are really not supposed to paint over anything that is chrome plated. You could have it sand blasted but I feel I can sell the stuff for what I got it for at least and buy the new cover. The bumper and both upper and lower plastics I have are brand new. I want the smooth front bumper were everything looks like its one piece.

Why will the hl work and the grille not? This is a new theory haha.

Just the amount of bulbs used were changed for the sport as far as the HL's go. But the sport bumper is indented lower in the middle where it meets the grille when the hood is closed. And it aint going to be cheap putting a sport bumper on. You will certainly not be able to sell the old one for the cost of the new one, unless you can find one in the JY.

And btw, it is WAY more involved than just getting a cover. Go to LMCTruck like I said.

Ok just so you know you need at least
1. Bumper Cover- the plastic piece you see
2. bumper reinforcement- the metal behind it that holds it in place
3. sport bumper brackets- 4 of them
4. all hardware nuts bolts and things
now if you want it done right theres more
5. sport grille
6. sport grille bracket
7. bottom plate
and there might be more I havent mentioned, now just the bumper cover is over 400 new and almost impossible to find used, best off ordering you year bumper just primed and painting in and the lower valance and it will look like a later years sport 98 and older
