Default U joints

Did a search in the forums and my drivers side u joint is shot. What I didnt find was what brand I should get to replace them. Plan on doing the replacement of both myself, just wondering how difficult it would be or should i just pay someone to do it. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.

If you have a press it should be fairly easy. I don't so I had to have someone do mine for $330[sm=headbang.gif]. The good thing is that he replaced mine with greasable ones so hopfuylly I will be ok for a while. As far as brands I have no idea man, sorry!

u dont need a press btw its easy without one u either goto the store buy the c-clamp for u-joints or just use a socket the same size as the hole and pound them out its quite easy

Yeah, the socket method works sometimes. Sometimes, you can break the axle shafts ears if your not careful. I would try the socket method if I were you. If you find it too difficult, take it to a local mechanic. Don't take your whole truck, take the shafts and the new joints with you. Sometimes they will do it right there when you bring them in. And when I buy ujoints, for any Dana axle, I buy Spicer.

Damn I never thought of a c-clamp and a socket. I got a ton of those. I just had to do my u-joints and the stock ones were NOT greaseable. I made sure the new one is. I got mine through autozone.com. I bought the more expensive of the two. Unless you get the new one thats in the 4-wheeler mag this month all are about the same. Its a pretty rugged part and its hard to buy a crappy one unless you go super cheap. (If you buy from autozone make sure you get new hardware too. --> Might as well replace the little ring that holds it on also.)

Im going to look for the ujoint clamp that was mentioned. I never heard of that before. I like to do my own work when I can.
