Default 97 Dodge Ram 1500 SS/T

Just bought a 97 dodge ram 1500 SS/t 5.9 liter love truck is it a Collector Truck have not seen very many around.

I noticed when I.m driving it the temp gage reads about 205 or 210 deg. Is the temp ok or should i change the thermostat. Checked it with a Digital gage at different points on the engine. At thermostat about 202-205, near radiator about 180-185.

Would like your advise

that is normal temp. But most people get the plenum fix, 180* thermostat, and SCT Tuner from Hemifever (hemifever@aol.com).

THe plenum fix is taking the intake off, and replacing the blown steel plenum with a 1/4 inch thick aluminum plate. www.hughesengines.com sells a kit for that. Need the kit, and intake bolts. They are Torque To Yield (TTY) bolts and can only be used once.

Not sure about the SS/T being a collector. is it turbocharged?

About collectibility, i would put it up there with a Ford Taurus SHO. So I would not try to pay for the kiddies college with it.

However, it did have a 2 year production. It is basically a re-run of the 1996 Pacecar that has more HP.

Depends on your miles. If it has less than 50K, I would call it a collectible. But if it has been someone's daily driver since 1997, then probably not.

And if anyone wants one:

I would pay 11-12K for it (After all, it was owned by a mopar mechanic). It would probably be mine right now if it was an extended cab. Sucks when you have to get rid of your truck because you have kids....unless you swap it for an extended cab!

Swap the kid for an extended cab? Wow, know anyone interested? I have a kid I wouldn't mind sending on his way.......
