I'm having a problem with my 98 starting regularly, I thought it was the clutch switch so I bypassed it, then the starter, bought the starter but then the truck would start and as soon as I released the key it would die, this happen several times then started and kept running, OK the switch. Changed the switch and everything is working great then this morning start die start die, but the odd thing is the accelerator pedal is stiff when this happens. Any suggestion or similiar problems experienced and a possible solution would be greatly appreciated.

 

See if you have any codes. The TPS could be bad, the pedal being hard is strange. Try cleaning the IAC also. Does it stay running if you keep your foot on the pedal?

 

When the accelerator pedal is stiff, I think to myself "Uh-oh, broken air hat!". If the air cleaner body somehow hangs too low, it'll interfere with the throttle linkage.

It might not be the air hat, but it's something interfering with the throttle linkage. In the driveway it's an annoyance -- on the highway, it could be a death trap. Find and fix that problem!

 

not sure if it would have anything to do with it but today i noticed my accelerator was real stiff, and when i tried to go it would just hit nuetral... i messed with the linkage under the truck and it was fine... maybe your not totally in park? just tryin to help...

 

Thanks for the suggestions but I broke down, and had it towed to the the shop.
