Unhappy 95 Dodge Ram Transmission Problem

I have a 95 Dodge Ram, automatic transmission. Last week the truck would not go into overdrive, now it will only go into 1st or reverse. Linkage is ok. Where should I start?

it could be the synchronizer or the gears themselves could be worn...i have a 95 dodge ram 2500 w/automatic transmission, but when i first bought it over a year ago, after traveling 1/8 of a mile, the truck simply would not go...it turned out to be a "fried" transmission and ended up costing me $2k to have it rebuilt

Unhappy Yikes

I was hoping for something less severe. I guess I will pull the pan and check the filter. Is there anything else I can check while the pans off?

try to examine the condition of the clutches and gears...the intermediate shaft may obscure your view of the front/rear clutches and planetary gears...the transmission usually needs to be dropped and opened up to do a proper inspection of the internal components
