Default Cruise control wont work.....

Hi, i have read through other people's posts and have done what the suggested to do for other's problems. i just got this truck and im fixing the little things that are wrong with it. The truck is a 96' ram 2500 4x4 longbed with a 5.9L cummings in it. I have replaced the clock spring which got the horn working and the airbag light off, now i just dont have cruise that works. I have checked the vacume line that runs from the firewall to the cruise control module under the battery. also i am getting 5.2 volts in one of the wires that plug into the clock spring. there are only 4 wires in that plug one has 12 volts for the horn and 2 are dead and one has 5.2 as stated before. I tested the wires that are on the steering wheel side of the clock spring and i do not get any voltage out of any of them. also i have checked the break switch and it works as it is supposed to. I am lost from there and have no other ideas or leads where to go from here.. If you have any info that could help i would greatly appreciate it...

If all of your voltages check out, then I would replace the cruise control switch at the steering wheel. I had issues with cruise control working sporadically on my truck and then die. Replaced the switch (Borg Warner unit available from O'Reilly Auto Parts) and it works like new.

considering I don't drive my truck daily, I could care less if the cruise control worked so I haven't bothered to fix it...but, I agree VWandDodge...it could be as simple as a switch replacement

You may have a vacuum leak else where. How does the heat work? And it is fairly typical for the module itself to be cracked/rotted due to the battery acid. Remove it so you can see the whole thing. IIRC there is a DIY here about cleaning the switch. Might try that if you care to.

the heat works great and all of the functions on the selector work and move air from one position to another. Tonight im going to check the continuity thru the clock spring.

i have the air bag unhooked for now and out of the way so no chance of it exploding. i have my kids football game tnt so i dont have time to check the housing since i have to pull the battery and battery tray out to get to where i can see the module. im just doing what i have time for when i have time. i appreciate the responses and i will keep you informed.
