Default Rear Wheel Wobble

In November, I accidentally lost control and went sideways into/over a curb. The curb ripped the wheel almost off the rim and broke an 8 inch section off of the outer rim. I put a spare on her and drove her all the way until now (September). She did amazing through the winter...even though that back driver side wheel wobbles a lot. Now, if I drive her a little bit, I have to tighten my lug nuts up. I almost lost the same rear tire driving 50 mph last week . I wasn't sure what it could be that i could fix to fix the wheel wobble, but I hope it isn't the rear end...maybe a rear wheel hub??? or something??? any input would be AMAZING thanks!

It's time to start tearing down that rear axle on the side that wobbles. One or more parts are bent, and when the assembly fails the life you negligently extinguish may not be your own. Of course you don't want to do that, so it's time to get in there and get greasy.

Look for a bent/cracked/out of round brake drum, excessive axle end play, a bent axle, those kinds of things. Or just pull a complete drum-to-drum replacement rear end from the wrecking yard and stuff it in there.

Yup definately sounds like a messed up hub or bent axle.

I had the same thing happen to me in my 96 when I dozed off at the wheel then went into a cornfield (on my way back from work).

The U bolts that hold the rear blocks to the springs above the axle got jarred loose. Just needed some heat and an impact gun and it was fixed.

if the lugs are tight, first make sure the wheel/tire has been balanced...then, check the hub/brake drum assembly, then the wheel bearings, and finally the axle...the bearings and hub assembly are easier to damage than the axle...however, all of these components are related to wheel rotation, so i would definitely inspect them all
