Default Front hub bolt size?

Hi- Does anyone know the size of the bolt that holds on the wheel hub/bearing on a 97 Ram 1500 4x4 with Dana 44. I seems to be an odd metric diameter size, like a 14mm x 1.5. Mine got stripped while removing it and would like to chase the threads with a tap or heli-coil it rather than having to buy a new hub. TIA-

Welcome to DF. I will move this to the 2nd gen Ram section, where you'll get some help.

i don't know the answer, but i'd guess it to be metric and i'd guess it at 10-12mm. not sure of fine vs coarse.

my first answer is to lay it side by side with the taps and find the best match, then root around in the spare nut bucket and find one that you can run onto a good bolt and the tap, or, run the good bolt through the corresponding die.

my next best answer is to take a good bolt to the local hardware store and find a nut that fit it.

Thanks dh- Basically did that and believe it's a 14mm x 1.5 pitch which is a fine thread. Now trying to locate a tap to chase the threads and hope the bolt still holds with some threadlocker.

it is a 14mm-1.5 thread on the dana 60 for sure. I would assume it's the same on the 44 since the 60 uses 4 and the 44 uses 3.
It's a odd fine metric pitch so HD and Lowes won't have taps for them.
Just a heads up if you need a new bolt they are about $7 EACH from the dealer.

I know the bolt head/socket size is 14mm- 12 point. It's been a while since I replaced the hub on the 98,I'd be surprised if the thread size was also 14mm. But, it's a Dana/Dodge axle, so I guess anything is possible! LOL That's could be why it is special and $7 I suppose.

It's definitely 14mm x 1.5 and found a tap at a local auto parts store, not the chain stores. The bolt from the dealer is 25 dollars. Supposedly there's a short bolt and a long bolt but mine are all long. Parts guy quoted me short bolt price of 9 dollars but when I got there I needed long one. I'm going to try and dig one up at the junk yard...25 dollars, really?

I got a set of 4 from the dealer for $28. Try another dealer......Seriously, that's a rip off.
