2 questions from a new Ram 1500 owner
I purchased a 95 1500 Laramie with the 5.9L V8 yesterday for my new work truck/play toy. However, I have two questions.
The first, is how does the air filter box open? I unclasp the three snaps in front, but then no matter which direction I push it or pull it, I can't get the box open.
Second, it appears as though my starter is going out, but I wanted multiple opinions. Usually when the truck is cold, it will not start. The first time I turn the ignition, there is absolutely nothing. The second time, I'll hear the starter solenoid click, and usually the third try gets the truck turned over and started up. Once that happens, everything runs perfectly fine. Any idea what that might be?
Thanks

The air filter box has to be removed from the throttle body before you can open it and get to the filter. Its held on by a hose clamp looking thing to the throttle body. Check the battery and battery connections first for the starting problem before you get a new starter.
take it to advance auto, they can diagnose your electrical system in a variety of different areas in a matter of minutes free of charge, including the starter. definitlely beats an internet diagnosis
If your is the same as mine, you unclasp the 3 clips in the front, then there should be a gear clamp around the base of the filter box that if you loosen it, the top will come off.
And the starter may be going, but i live in Canada and in the winter some times it takes a couple of turns before it sparks up.

Check your battery connections first, sometimes with corrosion you don't get enough juice to crank the starter. If its not that do a drawdown test on the battery to see if it has plenty of charge.
if it actually wants to start and turns over, then your fuel pump oculd be a starting issue...I had it happen and all it wanted to do was crank over more and more the colder it was

I had the starting problem tonight leaving work. My battery's ground connection was loose and it was cold... we'll see tomorrow morning when I go to work if the ground was the problem or not...

Remove the breather hose and the intake duct hose. Then unscrew the clamp (located on driver side, towards the back of the TB). Once that is loose, lift the front of the box off the stud and rubber grommet(located in front towards passenger side slightly). Remove the whole air intake. Then you can undo the clasps to separate the halves and replace the filter.
