Default 1996 ram 1500 running rough

im having some trouble with my 96 ram, its making this wierd clanking sound when it idles. i thought maybe it was the exhaust system ratling from vibrations but then it started doing it when i accelerate. i started it up this morning and it sounded almost like it was coming from the transmission area. whenever i accelerate past 3000 rpm the check engine light flashes too. also when i turn on the overdrive, the whole truck jiggles from 50-60 mph. if anybody has had these problems or knows what i can do to fix them, i would appreciate the help.

Engine:
stock 1996 5.9L V8 magnum
stock 1996 transmission w/ overdrive

Def sounds like a cat problem. Had the same thing with my old '94 ram.
