He said he's got 5.38s, plenty deep with a NV4500.

Yeah the 5.38s will do the trick nicely.

Powerband can vary depending on cam grind & head port.
Expect around 3000-6500rpm to 3600-7000rpm give or take.
Higher rpm range, best to get some girdles for the rockers as they may back out. (hughes/jomar)
Small 100-150shot would be fine, go all forged, dont cheap out on cast crank & for rods go H not I beam.
Forgot to mention, you will want to add a Walboro 255lph pump.
If you go with a shot, best to go to bigger pump like an A1000 & get rails & run a return.
Costs really hard to say, we're in Canada so everything costs more up here.
Decent 408 use to cost about 12k(US) to build, with many places selling complete bottom end kits & top ends, price has dropped since then.
Probably do it for about 9-10k give or take.

401rw (dynojet) was quite streetable.
His best na408 build pulled 449rwhp on a mustangdyno (459rw open tb)
Mustangdyno tend to show 8% less than a dynojet with same combo.

+1 on the Walbro 255, my stock pump is crapping out with my 7PSI of boost at only 4000RPMs and that's less HP than the 408 is going to run.

This has really helped me out a lot.. Thanks again!
This will be a pure mud truck, no rock crawling or anything like that. 9-10K is about what I was expecting indy, however I know the only time i will know for sure is when its all done and running good
