Default need help

hello everyone my name is steveo im pulling my hair out. i bought a 2001 dodge 1500 5.2 4x4. this has been a plow truck always has and thats why i bought it. i live in indiana i bought it in kentucky drove great untill 30 miles outside of indy. truck just stoped everything quit. its the brain box ecm wouldnt start put a junk yard box on it started right up. question is the guy that did it said it would be fine box came from a dodge full size van same engine. truck still starts runs but backfires and doesnt want to 3 rd gear. also no gages it says ( no bus) does the ecm have to be same engine and a 4x4 box the guy pulled a 2wd box does this matter. dealership says the box has to be same year and need vin and milage to fix auto zone says you can have a 2000 or 2001. the truck is 01 and only has 42ooo on it thanks steveo

You need a PCM of the year of the truck, with the VIN.

you just need an ecm from that year of truck with your transmission and engine options if you just want your truck to function correctly..the mileage is stored in the cluster..the vin be burned on the ecm doesnt directly effect anything unless you have a 4 wheel abs truck then youll get a vin mismatch thrown from the abs module and your abs and brake light will pop on occasionally

just a thought....

Will the mileage showing with the new PCM be the actual mileage of his truck or the mileage recorded in the PCM he puts in??

the actual mileage of his truck is stored in the instrument cluster...all the way up to 05 works this way in 06 and up the mileage is stored in the pcm
