low end lock-up... I'm no racer, but I tow often enough to want it.. thanks for that suggestion, I'll make certain and pass it along..

freeze plugs? see? that is why I love this forum.. absolutely.. thank you- I'll have him do it..

coincidence is funny- I was posting about the cost and the breakdown of parts when you asked... I'm pretty sure he's shooting me a good deal.

I went from 275/70/20's to 35x12.50/20's recently... After reading the forum for a while about gears, I had already decided to move to 4.56's from 3.92's.. I'm just now getting to that, but I'm thinking that tranny will be well protected with the gears, the stock aux tranny cooler, and maybe a deep pan..

honestly? longevity... ***** when I need it for pulling... backwoods/tank trails/ gettin' there from here across the terra.. I'm not into hole shots, racing in any form, or whipping my dong out for show, not into mudding or off-roading for the hell of it.. I like a truck that looks nice and does a job, is reliable and faithful (a cheating truck sucks), and will not complain when I hitch up 6k# and pull up and over the moutains..

I also hate payments.. I've had this thing paid for for four years now, and have been putting back for replacing it (robbing that kitty when this or that fails and needs replacing) and shopping for that new rig on my own terms.. I'm not sure how many old farts are on here, but I'm thinking many posters here are fairly young- my pops taught me long ago this is how it's done and I paid attention (one of the few things I DID pay attention to) and it has served me well... what didn't serve me well was pricing out the truck I wanted, and finding out it was $50k...

I robbed the kitty and have dropped about $11k on this thing in the past two months.. I hope it to get me five more years and the kitty will be ready to replace her as a DD.. the punch line is this: that kitty will be fat enough to buy outright, and this one will be stabled as a toy... I dig that notion..

what are you going to do with your old 3.92 gears ?
DON'T THROW THEM AWAY. someone may want to buy them or you might decide you want to give them to me....

cost breakdown on $3500 is about $2000-2500 part and labor on the trans.
and about $1000 labor on the axles. ($500 each)
and about $250 labor on the timing chain.
that's about right.

if your water pump is not new, have him to replace that.
he'll have to remove the old one anyway to get to the timing cover.
a new water pump is $60-75.
and don't forget the freeze plugs.

you'll like the 4.56's with 35's.

that's the most expensive damn water pump i've ever heard of. sounds like a dealer water pump LOL. i thought mine was expensive ($800) because it turned into a 7 day episode of almost engine rebuild plus a tow plus about 25 trips to the parts store.

yes, i'd love to have the gears whenever you are done with them (if you aren't going to sell them). just let me know and i'll send you the $$. they'll be very heavy, so it'll require some very serious packing, boxing, taping, and shipping... or they'll be scattered everywhere between here and there..

a funny story. i work with computers. many years ago we leased a new to us refurb'ed server from HP that cost about $250k. it was supposed to be delivered by moving van, etc. it arrived on the shipping dock one day sitting on a piece of cardboard, hand written address label, no box, no packing, no skid or anything... i thought oh ****, it'll never work... it's still running to this day. LOL.

I'll have him put them back in the box the motives came in.. they should be okay in the foam packaging and slipped back in the 'flap' box, and put back in the bigger box for shipping..

I'm holding my breath on the front axle.. I can grab the shaft right now and turn it maybe a full hour (if you follow that) either direction.. and there is remnants of spilled/spewed gear oil all around it..

you'll want both F & R, right?
