I may be your new best friend..

I have a friend (and a guy I work with) who dates a gal who works the parts center... She gets STUPID low prices on stock parts and pieces.. I only use her when I need something (usually high dollar) I can't wheel and deal on my own with.. I bought front rotors from her for $15 a piece I think it was, and rear for $13... hell, I paid like four times more for the pads than I did the rotors!

anyway, I'll check in with her tomorrow for a replacement carrier for those 3.92 LSD's.. I've seen them advertised for $275 (here), and using that as a barometer, I bet a dollar she can get them for under or around $100..

yo Salex- your doing it right my man.. keep your hooptie rollin' and take it easy on your stallion... it's cheaper, your retaining resell value, and you have a durn nice back-up if'n the honda soils the sheets.. check out that same site I linked for the carrier, and see what they sell gears for- I'm pretty impressed with their selection and prices... I could also ask my gal about OEM gears, just to see... It wouldn't be too crazy for me to ask about carriers and gears, so she may not feel like I'm taking advantage of her...

I bought my truck for 10K

I have put in this much:
$100 deductible: Warranty covered Power steering pump
$100 deductible: Transfer case (Sweet!)
$3500 Parts: Leer Camper shell, Hughes Plate, MSD coil, 1.7s, JBA headers, Rancho shocks, Rancho Steering stabilizer, Guages (Digital: tranny, Wideband AFR), gauge pillar, Magnum Valvecovers, Mopar Air Hat, March 3 piece billet underdrive pulleys, SCT (With custom tune package).

But that was 3500 spent since August 2008. So it has been over 2 years. I did not count the cost of the parts I had on my 2996 that I transferred (MSD box, Injectors, Fitch, fastman TB).

well, dang....

the tranny guy is out with some sort of personal issue and won't be back until next week.. I went ahead and decided to get the rest of the work done anyway, and will shoot for next month or the one after for the tranny rebuild.. I don't feel real bad, because the tranny isn't slipping or anything, it's just getting old is all... and I'm suspicious of an old 46re..

anyway, gears and timing chain are costing me $1k... I'm hoping the gears will eliminate much of the stress on the tranny, and I will get a lot further on it WITHOUT the rebuild than I would on the stock 3.92's and 35's, plus the towing I often do...

I still have a quote for the tranny that the guy said he would honor up until the first of the year- at $2500, including new TC and all the 'kits' I mentioned earlier.. Hell, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.. right?.. the tranny seems solid now, but I can assure you its not near as tight as it once was.. the 4.56's should help it along for a while... I'll see what happens.. I'd rather that $2500 stay in my pocket anyway.. By December, $2500 should be nearing $3k, and that takes an effective $500 off the cost of doing it now... Maybe it's sometimes better the way things work out...

DHVaughn, the 3.92's are going back into the Styrofoam the 4.56's came out of and packed away in the shipping box.. I'll let you know as soon as I get my hands on them.. I talked with my gal about the LSD Carrier, and she can only order them for me with all the bearings and the ring and pinion- so no dice on the rockin' carrier deal I was hoping to get for you..

Wow... what a coincidence. I ordered up my Mega Viper from PATC on the 5th and it didn't ship until yesterday because it was hung up awaiting parts. Must be something in the air.

If it had taken much longer it would have cost me Halloween with the grandkids and that would have bent me all kinds of out of shape.

Yeah... they'll leave you stranded if you make a habit of doing brake stands with them. Ain't nobody wants their juices stirred up to end up going nowhere.
