Lastrights,

Plugs only get worn more quickly if you have a MSD box. 3 sparks per revolution means your cap/rotor/plugs/wires wear out 3x as fast.

People wonder why I do a full tuneup every year.

It could be the plug gap. I gapped them at .041. As the electrode gets worn, it will shorten, thus increasing the gap.

Maybe that can lead to pinging.

Autolites are cheap enough. However, i think that the accel u-grooves (currently on now) are the same heat range. They are shorter than the stock champions.

i dont have headers and i hears a slight tapping as well, but not under acceleration or load. just keeping a steady speed. any ideas? could be the same thing.
