Default Tightening Mirror

Hey all, just have a quick question, hopefully someone can help. The manual (non-power) driver's side mirror on my 97 Dodge Ram 1500 is loose at the forward/rear pivot point, so that when you drive the mirror pivots backward. Just wondering if there is a way to tighten it up, and if so how I would go about doing that.

Thanks!

I had this same problem as well, I believe there is a TSB on this, but don't hold me to it.

At first I drilled a hole through the plastic housing and the mirror post, and threw a bolt in there. It helped, but it still swiveled slightly. I ended up just buying a replacement mirror, and then a few months later it started doing it as well.

I was looking into upgrading to the 98-2001 "mickey mouse" black plastic mirrors, as they actually lock into place. But I ended up going with some Street Scene Cal Vu sport mirrors that don't fold at all. I have power mirrors so they ran me about $160, but I believe for a pair of manual street scene mirrors it is around 95 buccs, not a bad deal. They also have a larger version than I have, but I just opted for the smaller ones. You can get them at stylin trucks.

Here they are in black

And here they are color matched

Edit- Seeing that your mirrors are manual, you could upgrade to 98-2001 factory manual mirrors very easily.

Hello, you can tighten the mirror by taking it off your truck and removing the triangular shaped plastic piece and then you'll see the mirror shaft held by a split tube type of deal with 4 srews. You just need to tighten those screws and put it back on. I should mention there's a rubber washer that needs to come off before you can get the triangular plastic piece removed to access the bolts. I figured out so it's not too hard.
