Default perfomance chip

I will take this opportunity to say hello.
Now, I just picked up a 1998 ram 1500 4x4 5.2L. I am not much of a car or truck guy. I am better with motorcycles.
My question is:
Has any one used one of these performance chips, do they really work.
Here is a link to the one that I found:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-PER...Q5fAccessories

Thanks in advance.

No chips, especially those frauds on eBay, will work well, if at all. The only route to go is a tuner, either Superchips or SCT. Hypertech also makes one, but its not as good as either of the first two mentioned.

The SCT is normally big bucks, but if you PM Hemifever here on the forum, he can set you up for $275; thats the tuner itself and up to three "canned" tunes. Later on, if you do some upgrades that require custom tuning, he can give you unlimited tunes for $100 more on that same tuner.

Before you buy a tuner, however, I recommend doing some research here on the forum for "plenum". Get that fixed before doing anything else, as it will only hamper upgrades, not to mention destroying your catalytic converter and oxygen sensors.
