Default Stalling when decelerating

I've got a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 Magnum that stalls when letting off the accelerator either while parked or while moving. It starts up again with no problem and idles just fine.

Any suggestions?

Check the IAC ports on the throttle body.... pull the throttle body, take the IAC out. (screw into the back) clean the ports, and the pintle with carb, or brake cleaner. See if that helps. If not, might wanna replace the IAC.

edit - scooped again. dang.
i typed more....

you have 2 important sensors - Idle Air Control, IAC and Throttle Position Sensor, TPS. IAC is the primary control, and its purpose is to allow air to bypass the throttle plate which is completely closed at idle. its on the rear of the throttle body and easy to change. 2 #25 torx and an electrical connector. when removed, you'll see a shiny brass pintle, which fits into a well. poke a screwdriver into the hole to make sure the little port at the end is open. spray it out with cleaner as required. DONT push, pull, or twist on the pintle or you'll break it. if you find the hole to be stopped up, clean it out and reinstall. do clean any debris off the pintle. if the pintle and port are clean, then replace IAC. $40-50 at any local parts store. Don't throw away the old one yet.

If that doesn't fix it, replace TPS on drivers side of TB. same price.

Should the pintle retract when the ignition is turned on?

Yes it usually will a bit to raise the idle and warm up the engine.

it should retract (rearward) to an open position to achieve start up and cold idle of about 1000 rpm. then depending on engine temp, it will close up some (move forward) to achieve warm idle of about 600 rpm.

if you remove the air cleaner and climb up on top of the throttle body, i think you can see it moving. its critical that the little port in the well is clean and open. and no excessive gunk on the pintle. as it moves in and out, you'll get various sucking sounds, which is normal.
