PATC Mega Viper first impressions

If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose to go with the Mega Viper instead of the Level 2 Viper? I've been looking at these transmissions for a while now for my replacement but my transmission (god help its soul) is still kicking with 250k original miles. I just want to know if the regular Viper would be enough.

They did mostly right in the end, but it was a long haul to get there.

Also, the Viper/Mega Viper comes with a stock shallow pan unless you pay to upgrade. If you go with a deep pan, I recommend going with the filter extension, too, to keep that filter submerged no matter what you do short of rolling the truck. And given the big investment, a remote filter is probably in order, too. You'll want to delete the anti-drainback check valve anyway so it can't hang up and eat your new transmission, but if you plumb the remote filter in its place you'll automatically get a new anti-drainback valve inside the remote filter so it's win:win. There's a good spot to mount the filter on the passenger side fender well, up out of harm's way and accessible from above.
Be sure to take out the crankshaft position sensor first thing after the battery is disconnected -- forget that and you'll almost certainly be buying a new one. Don't forget to put it back when the transmission is in. Should you elect to go for the street/strip setting on the shift kit, you might as well put some new u-joints in the driveshaft, too, because the old ones are going to see more stress than ever before.
