Talking Latest on truck

Hello, Key cylinder smashed, upper and lower shrouds smashed, ABS clockspring smashed, stereo gone, ignition switch smashed.

I now understand the clockspring; ABS refers to Airbag System not Antilock brakes. Clockspring is a coiled electrical connection which when correctly centered allows signal to air bag to deploy and also allow full rotation of streering wheel in both directions.

First thing I did was disable airbag by disconnecting Neg bat term and removing ACM. (Airbag control module) Then discovered PO had already removed ACM relay and fuse. Posssibly ABS is unservicable and PO did that to eliminate the idiot light. Not sure if I will put a new clockspring in as possibly system is unserviceable. Deal with that when I get to it!

Removed Key cylinder and ign. switch altogether and jumped appropriate wires across connector to provide run and accessories. Then jumped start and battery was too lame to crank. Fetched jumpers, 10 minutes charge and she started. Steering locked as I pulled away and I had to wedge an allen key in the ignition area to prevent locking. A tad nervous as I got on highway to go home. Dangerous for myself and others but sometimes you have to do this crap.

Headed out to do full dis-assembly now and parts from jobber here tomorrow.... about $400 dollars...ouch but better than the $1400 he was quoted. No labour either.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I feel those that are kind enough to show an interest in helping me will be interested in reading. Told my son not to show up here at my place without a NEW Battery and a club for the steering!

Merc, I will send a pm. Thanks to all.
