If lying on motor facing the rear, left rear of motor, follow trans dipstick down to where its tab is bolted using a bell housing bolt. That is where mine was bolted. It is easier to see from underneath the truck. It is way up there may be hard to see but you can feel for it.

If you found the bolt for the dipstick tube on the back of the motor, that is where Gerehead8 thinks it goes. Is the tranny dipstick tube tight or wobbling around?

The metal tube does not go into anything. It is a vent and is open to the air. The tab on the vent along with the trans dipstick tab where bolted to the tranny/motor using a bell housing bolt from the factory. It is possible that when the trans was last replaced it was forgotten and just tucked up in there and it now just happened to fall down. You can put it anywhere up high you want. Sorry if this was not clear before.

The pic makes it look like the hole in the tab has been filled in with something. What is it?
