Default Engine Trouble

i have 2001 dodge ram 5.2L 4x4 sport edition, when i start it wants to rev up and then down it will go up to almost 1000 then down to 500 then after like 5 mins of running it stops, i put a new set of plugs in because before it would run really rough at start but then be fine had ****ty plugs in it bought wrong kind. after new plugs it ran fine for like a week maybe less then i was driving and it like bogged down and almost died, it did that alot barely made it home it sounded like not enough gas or to much gas. i kinda noticed a day or so before it started doing this i would push my foot on the accel it would lag then all of a sudden kick in. so does anyone have any ideals?

Oh yeah forgot to add when i changed the spark plugs, the spark plug in the cylinder closest to the fire wall on the passenger side was kinda brown and seemed to be a lil wet

Probably a sensor. Maybe the IAC (idle air control). You should clean your TB (throttle Body).

Might need plug wires and a cap and rotor.

well - i recently responded to a poster that had this problem, and based on my own experience - I felt positive that it was a bad TPS. so he replaced his tps for $40-50 and it didn't help it one bit. with that disclaimer - i've had surging idle twice, surging from 1000-1500 up, down, up, down, up down. both times it was a bad tps. $40-50 at any parts store.

if you do replace yours, and its not the problem, keep your old one as a spare. its worth its weight in gold for blind swaps like this.
