It isn't the engine that is the problem though, its the electronics running it.... just think how pissed you would be after spending a couple grand to replace the motor, only to still have the same issue.

Do you have access to a scan tool, that you can actually get "live" data from? (be able to watch what various things are doing?)

BORG WARNER PARTS ARE COMPLETE RUBBISH. Let me explain something to you. I got a BW cap in a pinch before driving from LA out to NY. Well, it FAILED. The cap was so poorly made that the conductor that is used to conduct electrical voltage from the COIL into the ROTOR, OPENED up thus, I lost ignition.

They use a spring loaded mechanism to extert a downward force onto the spring metal contact point found at the rotor. This spring loaded contact became open and showed no continuity from the COIL termination to the spring loaded contact after only 3000 miles.

Also, the contact at the cap was LOOSE and was pulling out of the cap. I ran their IACs and TPS sensors and I had nothing but trouble with them in one way or another.

Again, BW parts are junk. Recently, I went to Advance Auto out here on the east coast. I asked them who made their sensors. The response I got was funny. The guy looked around before commenting and, he leaned over the counter and said Borg Warner while giving a thumbs down hand gesture. I already knew this and just started laughing because, he didn't have to say another word on that subject.

On another note, without fully testing something, try not to assume that something is not the problem. I've fallen victim to this myself and, it's easy to fall into that type of mentality but, it's really a handicap and, in my case, it delayed me in properly diagnosing the problem quickly, cheaply and lastly, correctly.

You can't time it with the dizzy. It's not BS and, to make a statement like that is just not right. What most likely happened is, that if it didn't run with the dizzy in the OEM position means, that the CAM was out of alignment or, the dizzy was out of alignment thus, throwing the timing out of whack due to mis-clocking of the DIZZY to CAM.

This is not the first time this has been said nor, the last. The last guy who said this very same thing had his cap advanced by a degree equal to one CYL ahead to which, as he later discovered, was incorrect. While it ran with the dizzy set to one CYL advanced, it wasn't the TIMING that was off, it was that he did not RE-TIME the CAM to DIZZY thus, he had to compensate for it by rotating the dizzy by one CYL or, by putting it back and, moving all the plug wires ahead by one. Either way, it wasn't correct.

The timing is not controlled by the dizzy and, again, the COIL is pulsed by the PCM as are the injectors so, the fact here is, you did not alter nor change the timing at all by moving the dizzy. All you did was clock the cap to the CAM to more closely match the timing of the spark to go to the appropriate cylinder. That's not adjusting the timing, that's called clocking of the distributor.

How much did you have to alter from OEM clocking?

I am glad you apologized because, we all take a lot of time to support this site and, with the intent of simply helping people for free. The last thing you want to do is burn bridges because, you may find you need additional help later on. Such is the case in point here my friend and, depending on my mood or, how offended I feel, I may just simply walk away and leave someone to fend for themselves.

I'm glad I refreshed my browser before hitting the reply button with my new post/reply. Well said as usual CM. My reply was not as nearly as eloquent.
