Default what engine do i have?

hey guys , new here

i just recently bought a 1995 1500 dodge ram sport..

vin code reads that i should have a 5.2 liter 318 in there..

however my trans decided to end its life , when i removed it i noticed thad my flywheel has balancing weights on it.. funny , i thought 318's were internally balanced?? right?
so i figured someone had swapped in a wrong flywheel sometime.. but then i checked the front crank pulley and that one has a deep groove in it , clearly for balancing purposes..

i checked for stampings on the block and found on the driver side a serial number that ends with (numbers)*360

trans is a 46RE

did my 318 grow into a 360 or am i horribly wrong here?

regards

The 360 has dished pistons and the 318 does not. If you can pull a plug you can shine a light onto the piston and see the dish. It is an oval shaped indent.

If there is one large weight on the flexplate or torque converter and the balancer has a notch out of one side then it is weighted for a 360.

I did not think they made a sport model in 95. I thought that came in 96 or 97.

could very well be so , i picked up a used trans pulled from a 5.9 durango and seller called it a 46RE , but he could have been mistaken , they are however identical to one another

Are you sure? Look at the plugs and make sure they match exactly. The 46RH is hydraulically controlled and the 46RE is electronically controlled. The 46RH OD case is a few inches longer to house the governor.

46RH was in 92-95 trucks with OBD 1 and the 46RE was made from 96 on with OBD 2.

What year durango?

okay ill check the pistons next time i go work on it , VIN code tells me that is is a 1995 built truck, could be marketed as a 96 tough (my countrys registration documentation is not the most accurate and it is listed as a 95 there) its black , has all the red emblems on it and the "sport" sticker on the bed
