ORIGINAL: Capepowder

Hey Mopar:
Most times they leak from the seal around the shaft coming from the compressor. I had the same issue (slow leak) but this year when I charged it I used R134a with stop leak. I won't know until next season if it held (last year I got a season out of it). Time will tell.
Good Luck

Its funny you said that I was going to write him and tell him the same. In fact any Air Conditioner Car or Home suffers from this. In the winter the seal contract due to the cold (this is normal.) and a small amount of freon will escape into the air. As your seals age in the compressor this happens a little more and more each year. Air conditioning companys love this because it makes them more money topping off your system and they get a chance to come over and look for more problems. When we sold home units we told the customer to call as every spring for a tune up. Which was no more than topping off the system and cleaning out the coils. What I noticed doing this for a living is they dont lose much freon for the first 5-6 years and then there is a trend in things starting to wear out. But that has alot to do wiith owner use and weather conditions. Anyhow I always topped off my trucks ac every year.

So EXPECT your truck to lose a little freon every year and this trend will continue until someone figures out a better way to remove heat from the air.

In fact in the School I went to the instructor drilled into our head that there is no such thing as cold air. Just Air with varying amounts of heat in it. When we used to tell him the car was blowing nice cold air he would freak out on us and say NO the AC system is removing heat efficently. blah blah blah

Anyway good luck..

thanks for all of the info on the more common problems. Hopefully my truck is just a slow leak. A guy that I work with at autozone has pressure guages so ill probably just buy a can of 134 w/ stop leak and hopefully that will solve my problems.
