Default Dumb question 3049: How do you fill up the front diff?

Alright, I feel like this is a real stupid question. I unbolted the fill cap on the front diff of the dana 44, and put in a hair over 2 quarts of gear oil, when it started overflowing. The manual calls for 6.8 pts, which is equal to 3 quarts, 13 oz. , leaving me about 1 qt short. What am I supposed to do now?

Thanks!

Put the plug back in and call it done.
But first, shine a flashlight in there and make sure it is level with the bottom of the hole.
